Inhabit

Ingrid (Belgium)

[Reflection]

During the exercise, I remembered how I once co-wrote a paper on analogies in vocational training and how instructors used metaphors such as 'mixing concrete like cheese fondue' to translate to newcomers both the intensity and speed of a gesture, for example, which are otherwise very hard to explain through words.

I have enjoyed deciding on a metaphor to inhabit. Yesterday, intriguingly, a 'sloth' invited itself into my writing life. I was feeling very tired and decided to do things the 'sloth' way. The result turned out... amazing. I managed to finish a really awfully boring task, which had been sitting on my list since the summer, by accepting doing the task would just go extremely slow and would bore me to death. I have also taken pleasure in the random Tarot cards I drew from the desk Helen recommended. Surprising!

And finally, after weeks of not always being sure how to integrate what I was learning directly ' in my writing', I am happy to report, that I did make a move - I intentionally wove in a metaphor in the text I am finalising. There are, of course, many others spread throughout, but this one was longer, more deliberate and hopefully - more stylish - than usual. Maybe I have finally crossed a (metaphoric) bridge !?
