Travel farther and faster!

Our Travel Grants are metaphorical rather than geographical, fostering lasting alliances between writers who have chosen to navigate their WriteSPACE membership together. Walking alone is all very well; but when you travel with a companion, you’re likely to reach your writing goals more quickly and to enjoy the journey more.

Frequently asked questions

  • WriteSPACE Travel Grants offer rewards and incentives for WriteSPACE and WS Studio members who commit to an ongoing writing partnership with one or more fellow members. Travel Grant benefits typically include extra coaching, consultations, and/or courses, depending on your membership level.

  • The Travel Grant program is intended to provide online support for face-to-face writing partners or groups and to foster lasting writing alliances between WriteSPACE members while also growing and strengthening the WriteSPACE community.

  • Any group of two or more WriteSPACE or WS Studio members (including new members) can apply jointly for a Travel Grant. We award these grants in good faith on the understanding that all members of the pair or group intend to remain enrolled in the WriteSPACE -- it's a journey, after all! -- and to work together to support each other in their writing practice.

  • The value of each grant is determined by the membership level of the recipients.

    All Travel Grant recipients are invited to fill out a joint WriteSPACE Journey Planner; we will then create a bespoke itinerary and action plan for them, based on their individual and collective strengths and goals.

    In addition:

    • WriteSPACE monthly members qualify for two extra Live Writing Studio passes for sessions they plan to attend together. (Value: $80)

    • WriteSPACE annual members receive an all-access pass to attend a 6-week Live Writing Studio Sequence of their choice. (Value: $200)

    • WS Studio monthly members are offered a half-hour Zoom coaching session with Helen to help them plan their WriteSPACE journey. (Value: $300)

    • WS Studio annual members receive a half-hour Zoom consultation with Helen AND access to a free Writing Catalyst course of their choice. (Value: $1180)

  • We subscribe to the maxim "A rising tide floats all boats." Our intention is to award as many Travel Grants as we receive applications for -- and we'd love to be inundated by requests!

  • We prefer to think in terms of lifelines, not deadlines! But no, there is no time limit on applying. All applicants must be WriteSPACE or WS Studio members in good standing at the time they redeem their benefits.

  • Q: What if my writing partner and I are on different membership plans (WriteSPACE and WS Studio)?

    A: We welcome your joint application and will decide your award level on a case-by-case basis.

    Q: What if we're both at the same membership level, but one of us is on the monthly plan and the other is on the annual plan?

    A: It depends; we'll look at your membership history and make a decision based on your individual circumstances.

    Q: What if my writing partner has joined the WriteSPACE on a free trial – can we still apply for a Travel Grant?

    A: You're welcome to apply for a Travel Grant and to submit your joint Journey Planner right away. Your full grant benefits will become available as soon your writing partner's paid membership begins.

To find the Travel Grant benefits available to you and your writing partner, identify your membership plan in the vertical grey column, then read across horizontally. You and your travel companion qualify for all green-checkmarked items in that row at no extra charge. (The parentheses indicate benefits already included as part of a higher-tier benefit or paid membership plan). For groups of three or more members who apply together, the total value of the Travel Grant will increase proportionately.
